Environmental law touches all aspects of mineral and energy development and the use of public lands. The Foundation periodically offers institutes covering specialized statutes such as the National Environmental Policy Act and the Endangered Species Act, and topics such as climate change law and regulations, air quality issues affecting mineral development, and challenging and defending federal natural resource agency decisions. In addition, a section of the Annual Institute is devoted to environmental law.

Useful Foundation publications include the environmental regulation section of the American Law of Mining, as well as papers presented at Annual and Special Institutes, available either by purchasing them in a complete manual (digital, hard copy, and/or audio) or individually on the Foundation’s Digital Library, Westlaw, or Lexis.
