Leading natural resources attorneys and other professionals from around the world gather at Foundation conferences to learn and share their expertise on key issues related to mineral resources. The Special Institute on International Mining and Oil & Gas Law, Development, and Investment has been held biennially in Latin America since 1997. This institute is co-sponsored by the Foundation; SEERIL (the Section on Energy, Environment, Natural Resources, and Infrastructure Law of the International Bar Association); and LARF (the Latin American Regional Forum). A Short Course covering international mining law is also offered periodically.

The International Oil & Gas Law, Contracts, and Negotiations Short Course, co-sponsored with AIPN (the Association of International Petroleum Negotiators) and IEL (the Institute for Energy Law) offers training in international oil and gas agreements in one- or two-week formats, and is held in Houston each fall. A condensed one-week Core Course, co-sponsored with AIPN, is offered each spring at varying locations around the globe. These courses provide in-depth understanding of international oil and gas contracts and negotiations. The Foundation’s publication International Petroleum Transactions is an indispensable resource for students and practitioners alike.

The Annual Institute offers a section on international law, and Special Institutes cover such topics as international arbitration, human rights, and aboriginal rights. Papers presented at Annual and Special Institutes are available either by purchasing them in a complete manual (digital, hard copy, and/or audio) or individually on the Foundation’s Digital Library, Westlaw, or Lexis.
