The Self-Generation or Cogeneration Option

In a literal sense, self-generation means the production by an entity that consumes electricity of some or all of its own electric requirements. In the same literal sense, cogeneration means the sequential production from a single fuel input of both electricity and one or more other forms of useful thermal energy. They are thus mixed, non-symmetrical concepts.

Nevertheless, there are good reasons (other than the fact that the topic of this paper conjoins the terms) for discussing self-generation and cogeneration in the same breath.
